New Program Under Construction! From the
later 16th century onward, music from the English Masque was all the
rage in both England and on the Continent. English masquing books contain
many references to ensembles of lutes taking part in masque performances.
Settings of music from English masques were published in numerous Continental
sources, such as William Brades collection of 5-part consort settings
(1617) which included arrangements of much of this repertoire. This
delightful music is at the center of Aery Entertainments, the
title of the next performance and recording project of the Venere Lute
Quartet. Check back here for updates and futher information as this
program comes to life!
